HMK Names Sherry Schaffer as Chief Financial Officer

HMK announces the appointment of Sherry Schaffer as Chief Financial Officer.  Schaffer previously held the position of Accounting and Licensing Coordinator for HMK for the last 18 years.  This leadership appointment follows the decision of George Mowrer to step down as acting CFO after 25 years in the role.

“I’ve been lucky to work with George the past 22 years as part of the management and leadership of the agency and he will be sorely missed as he steps down from the CFO position.  I’ve learned a lot from him and will take those experiences and apply them to our changing management team with the addition of Sherry Schaffer,” said Tim Kurtz, President of HMK Insurance.

Since joining the agency in 2002, Sherry has managed all aspects of the accounting department of HMK.  Schaffer is now one of two women sitting on the HMK management team and blazes a trail for future female leaders in the industry.

“This is a huge honor and a dream come true. I can remember when I first started at HMK almost 18 years ago.  George Mowrer and I were discussing if there were any opportunities for growth in my position. He explained that the only possibilities in accounting were my current position and his. At that point in my life I had thought about going elsewhere to pursue other opportunities. However, HMK became my family and I never wound up leaving. George has been a wonderful mentor and left me with really big shoes to fill.  In my new position as CFO, my goal is to help make HMK profitable and to keep growing through new business, retaining the accounts we have, and through acquisitions or mergers,” Sherry commented.

Speaking on behalf of HMK’s management, Tim Kurtz said, “We are fortunate to have someone as qualified and knowledgeable as Sherry to move into this important position within the agency.  Sherry has been with HMK for 18 years and knows our agency, procedures, and clients like no one from outside the agency could.”
